8yrs old and the first time I’ve put a long rod in his hands. I went with the 555 (10’6″) rod, 55b reel 10lb mono. Perfect setup for him, long enough but light enough to handle. 12 fish later (10 dart, 1 whiting, 1 Flathead) and he is hooked on beach fishing.
